I finally had the chance to watch the most anticipated Malay movie for 2011, "Ombak Rindu" sometime last week. The storyline is not something new for me, having read the novel beforehand about few years back. Of Izzah, an unfortunate woman who was sold by her own uncle. Fate has it that she was to meet with the ever dashing and charming Hariz, who eventually took her as his lawfully wedded wife (as she requested). And in between the marriage, entered Mila, his childhood sweetheart who is now the movie superstar. To cut the long story short, its a love story about meeting your fate at a road you try to avoid (for Hariz); of loving someone wholeheartedly but only to learn its a one sided affair (for Mila); and of a woman whose life has been battered and bruised with so many trials and challenges, yet she could still find it within her to hope for better days, to love unconditionally, to take whatever life thrown at her with so much resolve and faith in Allah swt.
The film has generated much buzz due to the casting selection, with the most popular male lead actor Aaron Aziz helming the Hariz part, and Maya Karin (Izzah) and Lisa Surihani (Mila). One thing for sure, I hate Mila's wig used in the movie, and the fact that her voice is always on a high octave tone that made her character simply annoying than she already is in the book. I think Maya Karin did very well as Izzah, minus the weird Malay accent that has long been associated with her, and incredible Aaron Aziz did not fail us Hariz.
I think overall it is a good movie (in comparison to other haywire movies ever produced throughout the year) although I do have problems with the treatment of Hariz to Izzah and Mila as portrayed in the film. Hariz is one lucky man, you gotta hate him for having 2 women who love him unconditionally, giving him the luxury to hurt both women at his whims and fancy, without him realizing it though. He loves them both, but Mila was a distant past, Izzah is his present, future and eternity.
I can't say I didn't cry or not moved by the movie, I think the soundtracks play a crucial role in injecting the element of sadness. I won't be shy to admit I did shed my tears watching "Ombak Rindu" but not as sad as I am whenever I listen to this "Ombak Rindu" song. How touching, its true that we often pray to Allah swt may He grant us the best possible result when it comes to mattes of hearts and feelings. Only He knows who is the man/woman fated to be our life partner, and until the time arrives, we can can only pray, and pray hard we will so that if we are meant to be together with the one we love, we shall be. But if not, we must accept with an open heart that maybe someone better is out there for him/her.
I'm praying may Allah swt gives me the best in everything I do, herein and hereafter. Missing someone is hard work indeed.
OMBAK RINDU
Tuhan tolong lembutkan hati dia
Untuk terima ku seadanya
Kerna ku tak sanggup
Kerna ku tak mampu
Hidup tanpa dia di sisiku
Tuhan aku tahu banyak dosaku
Hanya ingat Kamu kala dukaku
Namun hanya Kamu yang mampu membuka
Pintu hatinya ‘tuk cintaku
Malam kau bawalah rinduku
Untuk dirinya yang jauh dariku
Agar dia tidak kesepian
Selalu rasa ada cinta agung
Hujan bawa air mataku
Yang mengalir membasuh lukaku
Agar dia tahu ku tersiksa
Tanpa cinta dia di hatiku
Hanya mampu berserah
Moga cahaya tiba nanti
Tuhan tolong lembutkan hati dia
Untuk terimaku seadanya
Kerna ku tak sanggup
Kerna ku tak mampu
Hidup tanpa dia di sisiku
